Amanda Knox, an American student who faces charges of murder and sexual violence in Italy. Verdict of her case is expected today. Amanda allegedly killed her British roommate, Meredith Kercher in the November 2007. Amanda’s family have prepared two statements regarding to the the outcome of her verdict. Spokesman of the family,David Marriott said,
“If the verdict is not guilty, they will hold a press conference in Perugia at the Brufani Hotel one hour after the verdict.”
He added,
“They have a statement which will probably be read by Deanna, her sister, then they’ll open it up for questions.”
A brief statement will be given outside the Italian courthouse if the verdict is guilty, the family will take no questions. According to source, parents of Kercher flew to Perugia to hear the verdict. Meredith and Amanda shared room in Italy, where they studied. They were not the best of friends, Meredith was organized, disciplined girl while Amanda used to make mess of the room. These little fights ended up in a horrible way as one was killed and the other one is waiting for the verdict.
When the body of Kercher was found inside the apartment, police investigated which led them to Amanda’s Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. Both Amanda and Raffaele have been in prison since 2007. Amanda was in the middle of a drug-induced sexual assault, Meredith didn’t like Amanda because of her careless attitude. Amanda and her boyfriend made it look like a burglary as someone broken in the house and killed Meredith.
Raffaele testified on Thursday, he said,
“I am not a violent person.”
He added,
“I’ve not killed Meredith. I was not at the scene of the crime. Everyday I hope that the guilty one confesses. I ask you to give me back my life.”
Amanda said,
“They say that I am calm. I am not calm,”
She screamed in Italian,
“I fear to lose myself, to have the mask of the killer forced upon me. I fear to be defined as someone I am not.”
Sollecito could also face a life sentence.
