On the 24th of November, 2009 a fire broke out on Anaheim Hills, which burned almost twenty acres in just an hour. 150 firefighters trying to prevent it from burning the houses in west and south. This wind driven fire nearly consumed 50 acres, people had been evacuated from nearby villages. At 3 a.m firefighters contained about 10% of fire, till now no damages reported and it had not burned any structures. Orange County Fire Authority still concerned about the winds which could be a threat to push the fire towards homes, 241 toll way road remained close.
The fire heading towards the direction of south and making distance from developments in Orange and Anaheim Hills. A helicopter will be given to authorities by Los Angeles County for night water drops. The Firehawk helicopter contains 1,000 gallons of water and will start its work tonight. Capt. Frank Reynoso of the Los Angeles Fire Department said engine company’s firefighters will set up heliport and they will fill up the helicopter with water.
The fire broke out on the east side of the tollway, authorities and crews trying to keep the fire contained to the east. On North of the blaze lanes were closed on the 91 Freeway.Officials said that winds are blowing with the speed of 15 to 25 mph but crews worked out to contain the flames to the east side. If fire jumped pass the 241. it would hit the homes. Battalion Chief Kris Concepcion of the Orange County Fire Authority said,
“It’s got some potential to spread,”
He added,
“We want to keep it to the east side of the toll road because the threat is on the west side,”
Capt. Greg McKeown of the Orange County Fire Authority advised residents to have safe exit plans in case they to leave the area, because still flames were two miles away from the nearest structures. A red flag warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for Orange County and other areas of Southern California. Weather Service said that winds expected to raise at 50 mph with humidity remains in the single digits.
