An Avient Aviation McDonnell Douglas MD-11 freighter crashed on departure from Shanghai. The Boeing recently introduced to cargo carrier Avient Aviation. Avient says that the accident occurs because it overran the runway on takeoff. The freighter burst into flames at 08:16 on the Shanghai Pudong International Airport. There were seven crew members on it. China’s investigators have opened an inquiry after the crash.
According to Avient, it was a charter freight flight. Its fleet is registered in Zimbabwe while it has a European headquarters in the UK. The carrier said,
“At this time, the full resources of Avient’s accident response team have been mobilised and will be devoted to co-operating with all authorities responding to the accident.”
Air frame’s identity has yet to be confirmed. Its one and only delivery of MD-11F which Avient had taken in the last few days. It is registered to Z-BAV with serial number 48408.
Avient replaced McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30Fs and opted for MD-11F, its an 18 years old Pratt & Whitney PW4000 powered example. An operator of Shanghai Pudong stated that the aircraft “overshot the runway” and “disintegrated in flames”. 68 flights being delayed after the accident because of the closure of the runways. All the seven crew members on the aircraft were injured, they were taken to the hospital, later on three of which died.
The destination of the freighter was Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. National civil aviation accident investigators have started an inquiry into the accident.
