On 10th February, 2009 a competition was announced for the designing of a bridge across the Strait via the Diomede Islands. The results of the competition will be announced on 11th June, 2009.? On the other hand the idea for a tunnel was also given between Alaska and Siberia in Bering Strait as the TKM-World Link.

This biggest construction ideas approval is still pending in front of politicians, engineers, and the authorities which going to provide financial aid for this project. It?s a difficult task for all the authorities involve in it. This big challenge needs much money for its construction. The project is however seems to be possible but it is tough to afford its cost. By the construction of the tunnel the communication gape of European population will be resolved.

The Bering Strait is a sea which is in between of Cape Dezhnev, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug located on 169?43′ W of Asia continent and Cape Prince of Wales, Alaska located on 168?05′ W of the North American continent. It is almost 53 miles (85 km) wide and its average depth is of 30?50 meters (98?160 ft). The part of the Arctic Ocean the Chukchi Sea is connected with it from north. The part of Pacific Ocean the Bering Sea is connected form south.

According to scientific research the people living in Asia migrated to North America when the ocean water level was low. And might be some people crossed it while the glaciers were present so they simply walk from Siberia to Alaska. That?s why the population of that area was in thousands from long time ago. The area Diomede Islands which is situated in the middle of the Bering Strait is now heavily populated.

There is no road way to travel from Bering Strait to the cities of Alaska. Only Air and Water are the ways through which people can travel. For the convenience of the people the government is taking this step of making tunnel.
