Bert Stiles was born in Denver, Colorado on the 30th of August, 1920. He was a fighter pilot in U.S. Army Air Forces. He wrote a book in 1944 named “Serenade To The Big Bird”. The Book was based on air war in Europe. At that time he was participating in war. He was serving as fighter pilot when he was killed in action during World War II.
He also served his college campus newspaper as feature writer. Saturday Evening Post published his series of stories “The Ranger” which was based on his experience in Estes Park. His book “Serenade To The Big Bird” was written in English and contains 160 pages. It was published by Howland Associates, Memorial Edition in October 15, 1998. The book was highly appreciated by aviation enthusiasts because it was written by true honesty and shows his anti-war sensitivity.
He was honored for his services in U.S Army Air Forces by the prestigious awards and decorations to his name like USAAF pilot badge, Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart and Air Medal (with five oak leaf clusters). With that he was a famous American author of short stories. He died at the young age of twenty three but his professional services and writing skills will never be forgotten.
