Geysi Arruda in short pink dress

 

SAO PAULO – is a Brazilian university which had expelled a woman for wearing a short, pink dress in class openly after violent protests by students outraged. She was accused by hundreds of her fellow students. Her dress ignited students to protest on October 22 in this largely Roman Catholic country.

A video showed 20-year-old Geysi Villa Nova Arruda sitting in a classroom in a mid-thigh length pink dress. Then she had to be escorted away by six military police officers. She put on a professor’s white coat and left behind hail of insults and curses. A line of students stood by chanting “whore.” Another video showed a crowd stopping and kicking her car and blocking her, when she tried to flee on foot. This video was posted on YouTube and picked up by Brazilian networks. Arruda has been appearing on TV frequently since then, and saying that she is struggling to return to normal life after being mortified.

The university said it was also temporarily suspending some of the students who were seen heckling Arruda in the video. But how many were being suspended or how long they would be kept away from attending classes is not described.

The Bandeirante University said that she has insulted “ethical principles, academic dignity and morality”. More the Bandeirante University published an advertisement in a newspaper condemning Arruda of “inadequate clothing” and having provocative attitude in class room that was “incompatible with the university environment”.

The university warned Arruda to change her behavior but after talking to other student, staff and even Arruda herself, they expelled her – Titled ad “Educational Responsibility”
Brazil is known for scanty dressing, especially in beach cities but college students dress reasonably which covers the body modestly. Students complained that Arruda got out of place her exposing clothes.
