Daniel Schorr

An American journalist Daniel Schorr has covered the world for more than 60 years. He is a Senior News Analyst for National Public Radio. He also won Emmy Awards three times for his television journalism. He wrote six books named Come to Think of It, The Senate Watergate Report, Staying Tuned: A Life In Journalism, Forgive Us Our Press Passes, Cleaning The Air and Don’t Get Sick In America.

As part of Story Corps’ National Day of Listening project, Daniel talked with his son Jonathan about how he passes through a period of Great Depression which helped him shaping the matters of life. Daniel shares his experience and says that he turns off the light when he walk past a room with its lights on. He said,

“I practically follow your mother around sometimes in the course of the evening as she goes from place to place turning on lights, and I go from place to place turning off lights,”

93 year old Daniel says there were some fears of losing and the things you don’t have surely creates condition of misery. He said,

“It really is true that I sometimes will stand up for principle at the risk of my job, it is also true that when I lose my job, I get terribly nervous.”

He regularly contributed to All Things Considered, Weekend Edition Saturday, Weekend Edition Sunday and live coverage of breaking news for NPR. A great opportunity provided by National day of Listening project in which people can sit down with a loved one the day after Thanksgiving and record a conversation which reflects the true meaning.
