The Phoenix Mercury has won the WNBA championship for the second time. They have become the champions for the second time in three seasons. In this game too, Diana Taurasi has done a great job for her team with her companions Cappie Pondexter and Penny Taylor. These three girls had done a tremendous team work in 2007 championship and they have maintained their policy this year too. They had a win over Tenacious Indiana with a scoring result of 94-86 in which Tauraci scored 24 points.
“This is what we do, we make big plays,” Taurasi said, holding a towel over her head in the champagne-drenched locker room. “We have people that step up and love to live the moment. It’s a great team, great team.”
Tammy Sutton Brown, Jessica Davenport and Tamika Catchings made 22, 18 and 16 points respectively for the fever. It was Jessica’s first final.
“Indiana’s a great team,” Pondexter said. “It just shows our resilience and how bad we really wanted to win.”
Before second half, Indianas were running short in 10 points but they managed to tie soon with the help of Sutton-brown’s layup. Then, Tangela Smith from Phoenix Mercury added two 3 pointers and after that Jessica Davenport gained points and put her team ahead.
When there were two minutes left, Davenport made it 88-84 and soon after that Catching rebounded and made it 88-86 and after that they did not make any score. But on the other side, Dewanna Boner and Taylor and Taurasi made two two points each and made final margin.
