How the people are responding on the speech of President Barrack Obama about Afghanistan. Here we have some opinions from the former voice president and former secretary of defense. Former voice president Dan Quayle said that he is impressed with the speech of Obama and in his opinion that was a solid speech but he could not understand that why he gave timeline for it. He said that Obama wants to see Afghanistan a stable country but it is not as easy as he is thinking, the conditions were different in Iraq and Afghanistan is not Iraq, there was government setup in Iraq who held their country but there is no government in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is consisted of tribes and it is an important area because of Pakistan which is a nuclear power and Afghanistani militants can create difficulties for Pakistan government. He said we have been helping Pakistan in every difficult moment because it is a very very important country due to its geopolitical situation. There is Afghanistan, India Chaina besides it. There are a lot of political complexities in Pakistan. On a question that why America has attached so much strings with the aid given to Pakistan he said that it is our normal attitude that we see how the money is being spent.
But former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld is not happy in his opinion, Obama made a bald misstatement. After the speech, he released a blunt statement saying
“In his speech to the nation last night, President Obama claimed that commanders in Afghanistan repeatedly asked for support to deal with the reemergence of the Taliban but these reinforcements did not arrive. Such a bald misstatement, at least as it pertains to the period I served as secretary of defense, deserves a response. I’m not aware of a single request of that nature between 2001 and 2006. If any such requests occurred, repeated or not, the White House should promptly make them public.”
