Great athlete Dora Ratjen has died but his Name and his achievements will remain in the world of Games. Dora Ratjen was a German athlete. He was born in 20 November, 1918 and died in 22 April 2008. It was a queer thing in his career that he always presented himself as a female athlete. He competed in the Olympic Games on behalf of Nazi Germany.
In 1936 summer Olympics he competed in women’s high jumps for Germany. In the previous Olympic games, Germans brought just 21 medals and on post 4th while US brought 103 medals. As he was a male athlete so it was concerned that he was much benefited for Germans.
Although it was an ancient time, when there were not any perfect restrictions for entry of a male player in the women game. But soon in the 1960 Olympic it was noticed and they put the restrictions. Dora Ratjen was only single cheating case. It was a full of astonish thing for his team members, even their comments about Ratjen were in his side. A German high jumper Gretel Bergmann said that,
she and her fellow female athletes never suspected Ratjen’s gender.
She also acclaim that they never saw him undressed or any other sexual harassment from his side. Except of it all she said that, he always bath alone in a small bath room but not with us. We always made fun of him.
From the returning of his European Championships at a train station in Germany his mystery become open, when two women brought him alone in a room and a doctor revealed his sex. In 1957 he declare himself as a male, he also said some comments about his girlish life that, for three years I lived the life of a girl. It was most dull. He made a world record of high jump in women Athlete games of 5 feet and 5.75 inches. He never participated in any other game after the exposition of his gender.
