Dumont Dunes is an area of the Mojave Desert. It contain large sand dunes. The location of the Dumont Sand Dunes is at 30 miles north of Baker, California. The elevation range of these Dumont is about 700 to 1200 feet, across the river on the top of the Comp Hill. There you will find 8,150 acres (approx) of open area. From its one end to the other, each Dumont is about 3-4 miles long and more than 1.3 miles wide. You can found many types of dunes there, such as small rollers, large razorbacks and bowls. Most of the hills here are steep and very large.
At Dumont, there are two types of dunes. A type is called, “Little Dumont”. “Little Dumont”, is located along HWY127. The second type is the main area of dunes. Most of the dunes usually go in this main area. A gravel road (Dumont Dunes Road) is situated at about a mile from the Little Dumont. This road will take you to the main area of Dumont Dunes.
In the Dumont Dunes Off-Highway Vehicle Area, most of the dunes are incorporated. This area is under the administration of the Bureau of Land Management. It is also a recreational area for off-road vehicle sports including rock climbing, hiking, camping, and rock collecting. About 120,000 people used to visit these dunes annually.
Last year, the rates of Dumont Dunes were $30 weekly, $40 weekly holiday pass, $90 annual pass and $120 annual pass w/ holidays. Currently, a $10 discount is being offered on Annual passes till the end of September.
