In every game there are many rules and regulations are made for the safe and sound game. Rules are much important to follow for both teams playing against each other without rules there are many chances of cheating.

Like all game Basketball got its own rule. A flagrant foul rule is one of the rule?s which was passed in 1990?s. It is made for the safety of opponents. This rule is formulated by a specific organization only working for Basketball named as NBS (National Basketball Association). In basketball a personal foul described in NBA?s most extensive section 12B is a breach of the rules that concerns illegal personal contact with an opponent.

Flagrant foul rule is described in many subsections of NBA rule No. 12. There are two types of flagrant rule which are flagrant 1 and flagrant 2. Flagrant 1 foul is required before the player is ejected and flagrant 2 foul results in immediate ejection of a player. In this rule Commissioners can also charge fines for breaking it.

Normally it is seen in games that in a simple foul free throws or possession of the ball are given to the opponent players of team other than the rule breaking team. However in flagrant foul rule both the free throws and possession of ball is given too. The penalty for a flagrant foul in NCAA and NFHS rules is immediate ejection of the offending player and including two free-throws and a throw-in for the opposing team. A flagrant foul is a general term in sports as it performed intentionally or an excessive foul.

Many sports have two levels of flagrant fouls e.g. in soccer such fouls generally result in either a yellow card or a red card being issued or In American Football such fouls generally result in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty or ejection.
