Gabrielle Schoeneweis

Scott David Schoeneweis is an American left-handed Major League Baseball relief pitcher who is currently a free agent after playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks for one year. On May 20, 2009, his wife, Gabrielle Dawn Schoeneweis, 39, was found dead on the floor of the master bedroom in their suburban Fountain Hills, Arizona home. A report released today which revealed her cause of death that she had taken an overdose of cocaine an anesthetic called lidocaine.

According to report, Gabrielle used cocaine which may have harmed another person but “who that person could be” is not stated in the report. Lidocaine is an anesthetic which used to treat burning, itching and pain from skin irritations, it also used for dental anesthetic or for minor surgery. Lidocaine is also used by cocaine addicted as its addition in cocaine gives user a more intense high.

The autopsy report for Gabrielle Schoeneweis is still being decided whether to disclose, under Arizona’s public records law. Court of Appeals said that if it is in the public interest to hear the infromation than the further proceedings must go on. According to source,

“But the panel said its ruling disclosed the cause of death to provide guidance “in this and other cases” and because cause of death is a central fact not subject to consideration of whether privacy rights outweigh public interest for disclosure of public records.”

Scott Schoeneweis’ attorney has filed a lawsuit against the state and Maricopa County that claimed the release of the cause of death would cause emotional suffering for the Schoeneweis family. According to source,

“The Court of Appeals panel’s ruling came on Schoeneweis’ appeal of a July 9 ruling in which a trial judge denied Schoeneweis’ request to seal the death certificate and any other documents concerning the cause of death.”

Scott and Gabrielle had been married for 10 years, they had three children. Gabrielle had a 14-year-old daughter from her first marriage too.
