It was Friday night of 29th December 1972 Eastern Airlines Flight 401 was on its way to Miami Airport carrying 176 people. Captain Bob Loft was handling the jumbo jet while second Officer Don Repo was assisting him. Captain was trying to land the jet suddenly, warning light began to flash that was actually an indication of some problem in landing gear. The plane was coming towards The Earth with a speed of more than 200 feet per second which is very faster and neither of them took notice of it as a result plane slammed into Florida Everglades causing death of 101 people immediately. Captain Loft and Officer Repo survived in the first impact but both were seriously injured. Second Officer died after a day then, Captain Loft also died as he was unable to cover up from his burning injuries.
The story should be closed here but it does not and after some time reports of ghostly haunting began to appear from those planes who had given the spare parts of jet 401. Most sightings were reported by the airline’s crew members. Repo’s ghost was sighted in cockpit as well as in the galley. He wanted Airline to make planes more safer and once he had also pointed out a potential fire hazard and a hydraulic leak.
He was also seen in other flights especially sitting in crew’s cabin or first class. Once a stewardess asked him that what was he doing on plane as his name was not in the passenger’s list receiving no answer, she reported to flight captain who came and recognized him but he immediately disappeared in the presence of a dozen people. After that, airline removed all the salvaged parts of Loft’s jet from the planes and sightings came to an end. Reporter, John G. Fuller wrote a book on sightings which proved a best selling book.
