Kareem Abdul Jabbar

One of the greatest players of basketball of all time Kareem Abdul Jabber has a cancer. He has diagnosed a blood cancer in the last December.
He is 62 years old and former center for the Los Angeles Lakers. He said that that he is having regular blood checkups and suffering from chronic myeloid leukemia. He also told that the disease didn’t affect his life style.
He said that he wanted to educate people about the cancer. He further said

“I think it’s possible for someone in my position to help save lives,”

Cancer is now a prominent part of his life and raising awareness about the cancer has been a part of his portfolio for quite some time now. He said

“My grandfather died from colorectal cancer, my uncle died from colorectal cancer and my father almost died from colorectal cancer,”

He is having regular medical check ups and according to reports he is having high amount of white blood cells in his blood. Doctor said that in this disease the amount of white blood cells gradually increased in the bone marrow. He was diagnosed in the early stage so he wants to know the full medical treatment of the disease.
Kareem Abdul Jabbar had launched a campaign and the message is that seeks the expert or doctor advice and take medicine as prescribed.
The report of American Cancer Society (ACS) shows that the chances of getting CML are less than 1 in 500. It estimates out of 5000 diagnosed patients only 470 dies. Survival rate of CML is 44.4 percent for last five years.
