Bernadette Cooper ,the founder of Klymaxx was aware of this fact that in the male-dominated music industry it is very difficult to fulfill her dream of a successful musical band of females. When she was a college girl she realized this fact but she decided to make it possible, so she began her struggle to enhance female attitudes for self awareness and with it showing her talent.
Cooper selected the name of “Klymaxx” for her band and started auditioning females for her band as musicians. Atleast she successed in creating a band which was completely a female band. Its the first band in which all the members played an instrument. The group members of this female band are founder Bernadette Cooper, guitarist Cheryl Cooley, vocalist Lorena Porter (Shelby), Robbin Grider, keyboardists Lynn Malsby.
Klymaxx(s) First debut album was “Never Underestimate the Power of a Woman” and with a single “Multi-Purpose Girls”. In their second album they worked with writers and producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. In 1985 their song “I Miss You ” was another hit and was included in top musical charts. That time they were working with Solar Records.Their albums like ” The Men All Pause” and “Meeting in the Ladies Room” were mega hits. Klymaxx(s) song with the title “I’d Still Say Yes,” written by Babyface was another solid hit.
In the start of 1989 Joyce “Fenderella” Irby singed a contract.Most recently she is busy in launching the career of young R&B vocalist. In 2003. five members of band caused disagreement by using the trademark of band in order to perform some of the vintage hit singles. In a result of it Bernadette Cooper decided not to perform with the former band mates in the show.Finally in 2009 they received approval form the United States Patent for the ownership of the trademark “Klymaxx.
