On September 16th, a horrible incident occurred at Knott’s Berry Farm of Buena Park, as a cable came loose on the Xcelerator ride. The incident took place last Wednesday at around 4pm. In this incident, the two front passengers were showered with debris. The maximum height reached by the Xcelerator ride is 205 feet and it is so rapid that in only 2.3 seconds, it can accelerate to 82 mph.
A statement has been released by Knott following the incident. according to which:
Two guests were transported to the hospital today when a cable came loose from the Xcelerator roller coaster at Knott’s Berry Farm. The incident caused lacerations to one 12 year old guest who came in contact with the cable. A male adult guest complained of back pain. All other guests were asked for a statement and released.
The operation of Xcelerator was suspended immediately by the Knott’s officials. Knott’s Berry Farm has inspected the ride alongside DOSH. It is also reported that the ride will remain closed until the end of the investigations. According to the park officials, the cable was last replaced in December, 2008 and scheduled to be replaced in December, 2009. The current conditions of the two passengers in not clear but it was reported that on Friday the 12-year-old boy was released.
