The U.S. and LA Galaxy soccer star, Landon Donovan has H1N1 virus. On Thursday, Donovan told SI.com that he has tested positive for the H1N1 virus, the virus which is better known as swine flu.
According to the Website, Donovan told them that last week in the States, he contracted the virus. On Wednesday, he played a World Cup qualifying match against regional rivals Mexico in Mexico City. Reportedly, the ongoing swine flu pandemic began there. It was also reported that while taking a corner kick, he was showered human waste.
Donovan was quoted by SI.com as saying,
“I felt something when I got into Miami on Sunday,”
Donovan said,
“I just felt real bad and finally went to see the doctor. They took a swab from my nose and confirmed it, so that was that.”
On Thursday, the Los Angeles Galaxy’s coach and general manager, Bruce Arena told Los Angeles Times that it might be possible Donovan contracted the virus from two Galaxy staff members, who came down with the virus at the game against the New England Revolution in Foxborough, Mass., last weekend. Arena also said that his team’s star striker Donovan is not infectious.
Landon Donovan told SI.com,
“If I feel well there’s no reason why I can’t play, but we’ll just have to see how I feel,”
He added,
“Judging by how I felt during other flus and colds, this doesn’t seem as bad, so maybe I got a mild strain of it.”
He also said that he might be able to play for the Galaxy this Saturday.
