American Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Wayne and 11 others were detained at the Falfurrias checkpoint after U.S. Border Patrol found marijuana inside two of his tour buses on Friday, officials said. Two of his tour buses were stopped about 3 p.m. and marijuana was found on both of the buses, according to Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Joe Trevino.
The marijuana sniffed out by a drug dog form both buses; the passengers were not carrying any of the marijuana on their person. Trevino said,
“They’re being held for further investigation. That’s all we have right now.”
The quantity of marijuana seized remains unknown. He said that Lil Wayne played the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo on Thursday while he was all set to play the Laredo Entertainment Center on Friday. Marketing manager for the center, Anissa Trevino said they were able to make an announcement about the show being postponed just five minutes before doors were set to open. She said,
“At this time it has not been canceled, we are waiting to reschedule it.”
Officials with Corpus Christi’s American Bank Center, where Lil Wayne is scheduled to perform on Sunday, said that show was still scheduled. American Bank Center spokeswoman Christina Garcia said,
“As far as we’re concerned the concert’s still happening and until we hear any different, it’s going to stay that way.”
Lil Wayne was the 2008 best-selling artist, with 2.8 million records sold, and is signed to Cash Money Records.
