The former astronaut Lisa Nowak arrested in an attack on victim Colleen Shipman. On Tuesday she was sentenced one year probation. She was also facing the serious charges including attempted kidnapping and burglary with assault.
Judge Marc L. Lubet sentenced her one year probation and two days in jail, with credit for time served. She must write a sincere apology letter to victim Colleen Shipman and remain stay away from her.
Lisa Marie Nowak was born on May 10, 1963 in United States. She is naval officer and a former NASA astronaut. She was selected as mission specialist in robotics by NASA in 1996. In July 2006 flew with Space Shuttle Discovery during mission STS-121.
She gained world attention in 2007 when she was arrested in Orlando, Florida. She was charged with the attempted kidnapping of U.S. Air Force Captain Colleen Shipman. Nowak was released on bail after not proved guilty to the charges. On November 10, 2009, Nowak was proved guilty to charges of felony burglary of a car and misdemeanor battery.
An astronaut William Oefelein was former lover of Lisa Nowak. Colleen Shipman is now dating with William Oefelein. On Tuesday’ hearing Colleen Shipman said that Lisa Nowak wants to kill her. She also said that she lost her air force job and also has nightmares.
Nowak apologized to Shipman in court:
“I am sincerely sorry for causing fear and misunderstanding and all the intense public exposure you have encountered.”
