Mallard Fillmore a Comic Duck dropped
On 5th January, 2009 the Mallard Fillmore comic character was dropped from ?The Herald-Times? in Bloomington, Indiana. The readers of the paper protested against the editor Bob Zaltsberg for excluding the comic character. This protest caused to reverse the decision and the character is back now.
Mallard Fillmore is green-feathered duck a comic character created since 30th May, 1994. The duck is created by Bruce Tinsley who was an editorial cartoonist for Charlottesville, Virginia ?The Daily Progress?. In 1991 Tinsley was asked to create a cartoon character for the newspapers entertainment section. After many rejections a duck is decided for the paper named “Mallard Fillmore”. The duck represents a politically conservative mind reporter who works for television station ?WFDR? in Washington, D.C., USA. The character appears in 400 to 450 newspapers across the United States. Tinsley is also the writer of characters dialouge.
In the beginning Tinsley got warnings from the editor for representing him as a cartoon for his conservative views. For this Tinsley was also fired from his position of cartooning. But Tinsley didn?t give up he started issuing cartoon privately across the country as ?The Fillmore File?. The cartoon theme was admired by ?The Washington Times? and they started publishing it in 1992. Then in May 1994 the cartoon strip was picked up by ?King Features Syndicate? for national syndication.
Mallard Fillmore is main and most popular character in the comic strip. It is occasionally used for all the political issues. The cartoon character becomes much famous all over the country. It also earned name in international newspapers. Due to its popularity on 1st May, 1996 the Mallard Fillmore was also printed on stamps too.
