Chuck Colson

Chuck Colson

Chuck Colson, Founder of The Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, announced The Manhattan Declaration on 20th November 2009. Colson drafted the declaration along with Professor Timothy George (Professor, Beeson Divinity School, Samford University) and Professor Robert George (Professor, McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence, Princeton University).

“The Manhattan Declaration is a wake-up call—a call to conscience—for the church,” said Colson. “It is also a crystal-clear message to civil authorities that we will not, under any circumstances, stand idly by as our religious freedom comes under assault.”

152 Christian leaders signed the declaration comprising of 4700 words, including FamilyLife president, Dennis Rainey. The document unites Christian to defend
1. The sanctity of human life.
2. The rights of conscience and religion liberty.
3. The dignity of marriage as the conjugal union of husband and wife.

Today, Dr. James Dobson will welcome his guests Chuck Colson and Robert George to discuss the Manhattan Declaration on the Family radio. In his statement, Chuck Colson argued that these are the three most important issues for us today. Tony Perkins, Family Research Council President says that the declaration is a proactive stand for religious freedom.

“I agree strongly with the Manhattan Declaration, that the sanctity of human life, the historical definition of marriage, and robust religious freedom are under serious threat at this point in our history,” Sider said in a statement. “The Manhattan Declaration does NOT say that these are the most important moral issues of our time. It only says that these are crucial moral issues.”
