I have read by several posters that Sanford’s private life shouldn’t matter to the people of SC. Wrong, wrong, wrong! I live in South Carolina. His actions speak volumes about his total lack of character. He made a commitment to his family, the same as he did for the state of SC. If he can’t live up to his vows to do what is best for his family, how can we expect him to do what is best for us. The adulterous, arrogant jerk should not hold any office.

You cannot compare Sanford or Ensign or Larry Craig or any other GOP scum bag to Clinton because Clinton did not hold himself out there to be a holier than thou guy. Was Clinton a PROMISE KEEPER like that retard Ensign? Did Clinton preach against gays then go blow men in an airport? Did Clinton preach against the very things he was doing in his private life?

People hate HYPOCRITES! That is why Clinton is so beloved. He is a real flawed man and does not try to hide behind some fake christian set of morals.

I’d have more respect for him if he left his wife and had an open relationship with Chapur. All this insincere manipulation seems like just that… insincere and, to be perfectly frank, gutless…

And yes, btw, I’m a married mother of two. And my husband and I have talked about encountering this very situation. And we agree that if one of us believes we’re in love with someone else, we’ll split and do what’s right which is not to live in a sham of a marriage.

Why has no one realized that Mark Sanford left his post as governor to make his trip to Argentina? I would think that should be enough to have him impeached. If a soldier deserts his post, he would be court martialed.

Angie, the difference in Clinton and Sanford is that Clinton’s personal life was his personal life. Sanford left us (South Carlinians) in total limbo without transferring power to anyone while he skipped off (lying all the while about his whereabouts and couldn’t be reached) to have his little flingie-poo with a mistress. I don’t give a crap who he screws. That’s between him and his wife. But to leave us with no leadership left us without anyone to handle things in a state of emergency. South Carolina’s constitution (100’s of yrs. old) doesn’t address what a State of Emergency would be…it’s up to the gov’r. What if we’d had wildfires like we just had at Myrtle Beach? What if a hurricane had rolled in? Nobody could call out the crews, nobody could call out the National Guard, we’d just be screwed. Bet Sanford’s little love-of-his life isn’t feeling to great about finding out he was out doing other women, too. Put the emphasis on where it belongs: the State, not the marriage. ANYONE who left his job without contacting the boss, couldn’t be reached, and didn’t come to work would be fired IMMEDIATELY. I say fire the basturd and let our State get on with the important things. Suits me fine if he goes to Argentina, but I doubt Maria would be thrilled about taking him back, either.

Why doesn’t he leave, get a divorce and have an open relationship with Maria? Nobody can force him to stay. What he said in his tearful interview was cruel to his wife. I think he wants to get kicked out so as to blame the wife for breaking up the marriage and family. She isn’t making it easy for him by offering forgivenss, I think she knows that and good for her. If he wants out, then he needs to walk out on his own.

The governor’s hypocrisy is huge. If he truly felt that Clinton should have stepped down due to losing the trust of America, then Sanford needs to do the same.

I hope his wife kicks him to the curb. She has the money. What he did is shameful. His wife found out about the affair and asked him to not go. If he cared one whit about her or his children he wouldn’t have gone. He gave his wife, children, his job, and the people of South Carolina the proverbial finger by going any way.
