Outfielder for the Atlanta Braves, a Major League Baseball team, Melky Astacio Cabrera was born on August 11, 1984. He was born in Santo Domingo Oeste, Dominican Republic. New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is his best friend. He also has a beautiful son.
On November 13, 2001 when he was 17 year old, he was signed by New York Yankees. At the age of 18 he made his debut with the Yankees Rookie League. In 2003 he made his first minor league appearance with the Rookie-Advanced team. In 2005 he got his major league debut. After he played six games he was called back to Columbus.
He impressed Yankees with his performance by hitting .349 in 16 games. At the start of the season he was sent to Class AAA Columbus. He had a great season there and hitting .385 with 4 home runs and 24 RBI in just 31 games. Left fielder Hideki Matsui got injured and broke his wrist so Cabrera was being called up. He performed well in the season. He won “This Year in Baseball” Award by the votes of fan in 2006 for his outstanding performance.
In August 2008 he was sent back to their Class AAA but called up latter on September 2008.
In August 2009 he become the first Yankee to hit for the cycle since September 3, 1995 when Tony Fernandez done it. He was traded to the Atlanta Braves, on December 22, 2009. He was traded against Mike Dunn and a minor league player for Javier VƔzquez and Boone Logan.
