Google Inc. Spokesman, Scott Rubin, cleared on Tuesday that they are not going to remove a crudely altered photograph of Firs Lady Michelle Obama from the company’s search process despite protest. Scott admitted that it’s offensive to many people but they are not willing to remove it on this only reason. The depiction of image is racist and repugnant but what will you say to Google which claims that they have in general a bias towards free speech. Scott Rubin said, Tuesday, “We have, in general, a bias toward free speech.”
A text ad is placed above the image titled “Offensive Search Results” stating
“Sometimes our search results can be offensive. We agree.” “We apologize if you’ve had an upsetting experience using Google,” the company wrote.
Rubin said, web pages are not removed unless the content violates the company’s webmaster guidelines. In 2004, Google had posted the same statement for the searches of “Jew” which was showing a virulently anti-Semitic site as the top result.
The image belongs to a blog named, Hot Girls. Hot Girls blog is an additional Google connection and an online tool, owned by Google. The users of blogs have to adhere to the site’s terms of service define as
“content that promotes hate or violence towards groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status or sexual orientation/gender identity.”
