The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission have sold a figure of 130,000 permits this year which will lift up the restrictions and allow hunters to kill either a male or female deer. The areas with the highest deer density a free bonus tag will come with permit which allow hunters to kill an antler less deer.
Manager Kit Hams for Game and Parks said,
“If you’re a hunter, we’ve got 80,000 antler less tags,”
He added,
“Use them.”
Well it is difficult for some hunters to hunt a doe because they grew up with a thought that to kill female is not a good deed. But that was the approach when the mindset was to see the growth rate of the population. Many of the hunters love to hunt an antler less because it may seem to be their obsession.
A former hunter Robert Priel said,
“That attitude has to change”
Priel has a strong recommendation for the agency as he suggest that agency must set a standard size for antlers and if a hunter kills a young buck, the agency must penalize him.
Priel said,
“Go after the does that affect the problem,”
Hunters must not have let their ego to be the part of this. He said,
“Don’t have this ego that you have to have a buck.”
Many of us are creating problems as everyone of us has to take the full responsibility. Priel said,
“including motorists, who need to be more alert and cautious on the road during the times deer are on the move”.
Landowners must allow hunters to kill an antler less deer before they take a buck. Hams said,
“If we have to force hunters to do it, we will,”
He added,
“But we prefer to let them do it voluntarily.”
The bonus tags really made a huge difference as a large number of archery and muzzle loader hunters used the tags last year. Game and Parks is hoping that hunters will kill more antler less deer.
