Northeastern Football

A sad day for the students of Northeastern University as the university is cutting its Division 1 football program. They were ranked No.1 in the nation when they entered the 2003 season. A panel consisting of senior administration, trustees, faculty, alumni, donors and students made the decision. This panel was headed by the director of athletics and recreation, Peter Roby who made the recommendation to cutting football and his suggestion was accepted by the panel.

Atheletic Director Peter Roby said,

“We do not define success merely through wins and losses, instead, we recognize that success comes from creating a positive student-athlete experience. The primary motivation for this decision was based on the significant obstacles to providing this experience for our football players.”

The decision was not taken at once, according to Administration officials it was on the table since 2007.

Well for the players its a shocking decision, if we have a look in their performances which they have put up in year after year. At The University of Rhode Island The Northeastern Football registered their 33027 win in its 74th season. 63 football scholarship athletes are guaranteed their scholarships until they complete the graduation. The administration made sure that athletes knew about the decision at first so they had the most time possible to make arrangements for their future. The decision of cutting school’s intercollegiate football program was announced yesterday by the Northeastern officials.
