The man trapped in a section of Nutty Putty Cave died. A daylong rescue effort was made to save him but it went all in vain. The name of the 26-year-old man died was John Jones. According to reports, John Jones was trapped in a section of Nutty Putty Cave from where he died around midnight Wednesday. According to Shawn Roundy, a man in the rescue team said, John Jones was trapped in the worst spot in the cave.
According to Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Eldon Packer, Jones was trapped and became unresponsive. He said that several hours before, Jones had difficulty in breathing which make his survival more complicated. Sgt. Eldon Packer said that after midnight, one among the rescuers got closer to him and he confirmed that Jones had died.
On Thursday morning, the rescue team returned to the site to discover the best way to get Jones’ body out. Sgt. Spencer Cannon said,
“The emotional factor alone will have a toll on the rescuers,”
Sgt. Spencer Cannon added,
“We weren’t able to get him out quick enough.”
Jones was one of the nine members of a group that entered Nutty Putty cave. His brother Josh Jones was also in the group. Josh Jones said that his brother had decided to to explore a different route.
