O. J. Brigance was a championship football player in the Canadian Football League and the National Football League. He was born in Houston, Texas in 29 September 1969. He is one of them who played and won both CFL and NFL. He was a great motivator for his team.
Brigance started his football practice at Rice University. In 1991 he started playing with B.C. Lions in CFL and there he played 3 years and 54 games with Lions. His careers best season started in 1993 when he recorded 20 sacks. In 1995 he won Grey Cup championship by recording 7 sacks for Baltimore Stallions. When NFL started in 1996 the Brigance joined it and played there for seven years. He also played for Miami Dolphins for 4 seasons and 60 games. Brigance was awarded with the NFLPA?s Unsung Hero Award in 1999. In 2000 joined Baltimore Ravens, played 16 games and won Super Bowl ring. In 2001 he played 21 games for St.Louis Rams and finished with New England Patriots in 2002. He got retirement from playing in 2003.
After retirement Brigance also selected as Director of Player Development for the Baltimore Ravens. In 2005 and 2006 he was awarded with NFL’s Winston/Shell Award for developing different and innovative programs for players. He was also involved in many organizational works like Habitat for Humanity, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Daily Food Bank
Brigance is now suffering from early stages of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) a disease in which patient looses muscle functions. His disease was diagnosed in May 2007. He is on his wheelchair and unable to move his arms and could not stand on his legs. Instead of all he raised funds for the research of ALS. He wants everyone to join his foundation named as Brigance?s Brigade. He got much response from his campaign and there are more than 1000 fans of him joined his foundation links created in face book too.
