Oasis of the Seas
Finally the countdown is over as the Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas anchored in its American home port of Port Everglades. Largest cruise ship ever with 225,282 ton, 5,400 passenger was entered into the inlet at 8 a.m EST. At vantage point in Fort Lauderdale large number of Oasis and avid ship watchers await the arrival of largest cruise. It was reported by the Cruise Critic members that the atmosphere was full of excitement and large crowd welcome the ship.
Official welcome party was arranged by Royal Caribbean in which food and drinks were served. A resident of Plam Beach Joan Belenson (member mjbelen) was also in that party. Joan who has been lucky to cruise 11 times with Royal Caribbean. He said,
“There were hundreds, if not over 1,000 people down at the park watching, and the weather was gorgeous! There were helicopters above, and boats were sounding their horns. I even met Royal Caribbean’s executives Adam Goldstein and Richard Fain. I asked Adam if I could get onboard, but no such luck.”
There was another Cruise Critic member Logan Peretz from Hollywood and he is also a big fan of Royal Caribbean.
He said,
“It was bigger than I thought — in fact I think it was bigger than anybody thought!”
They don’t have to wait longer as both of them will be sailing on Oasis of the Seas next summer. Joan and Logan will be on the largest cruise ever in next summer.
Everyone seems to have fix their places where they captured the moment of the arrival of Oasis as the member Joe Regner (Thameth) was on the 17th Street Causeway Bridge at half past six. He said,
“The atmosphere was amazing! The ship was taking up the whole of the inlet. There were about 35 to 40 people on this side of the bridge and another 35 to 40 on the other side.”
Oasis of the Seas arrived at 9 a.m into its new home port where the water sprayed into the air by fire boats and other ships horned to welcome the Oasis. Weather was also perfect for the Oasis to have a smooth sail into its new home port. Pop music artist Rihanna and reporters of leading news agencies were at the spot.
A storm in north Atlantic delayed the arrival of ship by two days in the U.S. Turku and Finland were the two places where Oasis left the shipyard. Cruise also made a stop in Solent for technical reason. Naming ceremony will officially take place on November 30 and the inaugural sail of cruise will be held on December 1.
