Indian government and Indian people are very happy on this Diwali as the American president Barrack Obama himself celebrated the Indian lights festival. Obama lit a lamp in white house and wished Indian government and Indian people “Happy Diwali and Saal Mubarak”.
“This coming Saturday, Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists, here in America and around the world, will celebrate this holiday by lighting diyas, or lamps, which symbolise the victory of light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance, and while this is a time of rejoicing, it’s also a time for reflection, when we remember those who are less fortunate and renew our commitment to reach out to those in need,”
Obama said at his ceremonial speech in white house. It was previous president George .W Bush who actually started that tradition but he never took part himself but now Obama has taken a step ahead of litting the lamp and of taking part in ceremony by himself. Obama went to Indian treaty room and lit lamp with a candle then he listen the speech of “pandit” who was reciting from the sacred book Upanishads. Obama also had a “tilak” on his head.
“Thank you Mr President for being the first president to come to the Diwali ceremony,” a journalist called out to Obama. “Yeah, isn’t that something?”
the president shot back.
Penn Masala group made a brilliant performance before ceremony started. Indian intellectuals and Indian administrative members attended that ceremony.

President of USA celebrating Deepavali at white house must be a very memorable moment for the thousands of Indian staying in the America in that respect for all Americans. In fact celebration of Deepavali started much much before the existence of America or any any other modern society or country. It is highly commendable that USA president has got very deep understanding on the significance of the festival, where there is victory of goodness (light) over evil (darkness). Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after victory over Demon Ravana. This being a very ancient festival everybody may know it’s significane and celebrate. Only thing I was wondering Why it was celebrated at the White House before the actual day of Deepavali or Diwali?

This is horrible. The separation of church and state activists have a problem with Christianity but not idol worship? And this is in the White House! Diwali is celebrated by lighting candles and idol worship. Shocked that the White House and especially the president took place in this.
Equal treatment!
