According to reports, Oprah Winfrey is closing her show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, after her current contract runs out. The television queen has served the show for 24 years and the show is on air since 1984. This is a show for which every celebrity dreams of being on at least once in career. Over the years, the format has been changed.
According to Winfrey’s production company’s statement issued on Thursday, the show will come to an end on 9th of September, 2011 after completion of their 25th contract. The show airs in almost 145 countries of the world and in just America it has a huge number of fans about 42 million.
Officially, she will announce today about finishing show.
It is expected that she will start a new talk show on OWN. OWN stands for Oprah Winfrey Network and it is a joint venture with Discovery Communication Inc, expected to debut in 2011.
CBS Television Distribution hopes to continue doing business with Oprah. CBS Television Distribution distributes “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to more than 200 markets and they are thinking to continue doing business with Oprah by giving their studio to produce a new show.
“We have the greatest respect for Oprah and wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors,” the unit of CBS Corp. said in a statement. “We know that anything she turns her hand to will be a great success. We look forward to working with her for the next several years, and hopefully afterwards as well.”
