Maine is going to take decision about the burning question states “whether same sex people should be allowed to marry or not?” there was a referendum in state on this topic yesterday. Five other states including Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont have declared homo-sex wed a legal act through state courts or legislatures. Both groups who are against it and who are supporting the gay marriages are very sure about their success in poll.
Although gay supporters claim that it is not a religious issue but religious is a part of the debate and dialogue and religious personalities like Portland’s Bishop Richard J. Malone played a key role in the repel campaign. Just 15% of population is Catholic People who are even secular are against this same sex civil marriage.
Portland’s Bishop Malone is leading the opponents he has published a pamphlet named “vote your faith”
“It is not gay pride to aspire to an institution that is uniquely and by definition a heterosexual institution,” Bishop Malone writes in a two-page handout, adding, “Vote your faith.”
But outside the church there is another message which supports the gay marriage and not just gay but also lesbians marriage too. Pamela Starbird Beliveau is a supporter of gay marriage and she thinks that children need a loving home and loving parents and they will be not affected by this, she also claims about the equality of gays and lesbians in society.
“I am sad but not surprised by what happened” to me, she told the gathering on Sunday and local broadcast media yesterday. “The Catholic Church has every right to determine who can and cannot serves as ministers in the Church. I respect that.” Nonetheless, Beliveau said. “We must keep our eyes focused on the issue and that is equality for our gay and lesbian citizens.”
