The games between CSU and the University of Colorado are said to be one of the most popular football games in Colorado state. But some students of the Colorado State University are boycotting the Rocky Mountain Showdown between these two teams. The reason behind their boycott is said to be the change in venue. As the venue was changed to Folsom Field in Boulder from Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver, the students reacted angrily as Boulder is the home of their rivals.
Another huge reason behind the anger of these young students is the cost of tickets. When the Rocky Mountain Showdowns were held at Invesco, the CSU students paid $15 for ticket but after the move, they have to pay about $70 for a ticket, which is four times more than the previous rates. Most of the students now prefer to watch the game on their TV with friends and cheer for their team from home.
A CSU senior Bryan Gass, who witnessed several games between CSU and the University of Colorado at Invesco, said.
“No one wants to go,”
Gass said.
“I have a couple friends who paid the outrageous price. But they’re going to be literally outnumbered, like 45,000 to 3,000.”
He added.
“I want to go, but I just can’t,”
Gass now enjoy the game on his TV at his home with friends. Another CSU senior Amy Eskola said she can’t afford the cost of a single-game ticket to watch Rocky Mountain Showdown at Folsom Field. Eskola said,
“I haven’t talked to anyone who is going, and I live in a sorority house with 60 people,”
Folsom contain seats for about 53,750 people but till Thursday afternoon, more than 1,800 tickets remained unsold.
