Savannah cats were first bred on April 7, 1986 by a woman named Judee Frank. It is considered as one of the longest species of cats available in the world. Moslty the male Savannahs cats are larger than females. Scarlett’s Magic, by Kim Draper (her owner) is the new holder of the Guinness world title with 43.43 centimetres (17.1 inches) from shoulder to toe. According to Kim, it is a hybrid cat and is breeded by African Servals and ordinay cats. It is named as F1 Savannah. It is very close to wildcat.
The overall look of Savannahs depends greatly on generation. Generally, Savannah is a tall, lean cat, having long legs and a long neck. Its coat looks spotted pattern along with some bars on a golden to tawny background and seems like small leopards or cheetahs. But it depends on the breed of cats used domestic cross.
In the early period of Savannah, they have dark spots on a lighter background and were weighted upto 20 to 30 lbs. Later generations are usally around 12 to 20 lbs in weight. Savannahs come in great variations including snow coloration, classic or marble patterns and blue colors derived from domestic sources.
They can be compared to dogs for their loyalty, and they follows their owners around the house. With new people, some savannahs become very friendly while other may hide or run away from strangers.
Savannah cats are very playful and devoted to their owners. They can immerse themseleves in water and don’t fear from it. They have ability to jump upto 2.5m high while standing. They can even be tamed to open doors and cupboards. They are very entertaining for their dancing behavior.
The Savannah is perhaps the most intelligent of all felines and may enjoy your company more so than many other breeds of cats, they love to play.
