US East Coast has been blanketed by the snowstorm and National Weather Service forecast says that up to two feet of snow is expected on and around Washington over the weekend. They have provided information on their website saying 38-64 cm snow accumulation is expected in the capital by Monday. Mayor of Washington, Adrian Fenty, has been declared a snow emergency around Washington after the indications of a biggest storm. There have been declared a state emergency in Virginia. Storm warnings are in effect including Tennessee in the south to southern New England in the north, North Carolina and travel conditions would be extremely treacherous throughout the region by Sunday.
The storm is expected to pass through the mid-Atlantic region by Monday and will cover the whole of New York City and Philadelphia during the weekend. In New York, snow is expected by Sunday with accumulation of 15 to 30 cm by Monday.
Authorities are urging drivers to not go on roads with vehicles and Metropolitan Washington Airport Authorities have advised the travelers to check their flight schedule before they come to airport while Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport are open. Rahsaan Johnson is the spokesman of the Unites Airlines and he says that they have cancelled all flights scheduled at Washington Dulles, one of the busiest airlines hubs.
A rough estimate tells that this storm will bring more snow than any storm has since February 2003.
