Baby Fae

Stephanie Fae Beauclair was an American baby who was better known as Baby Fae. 25 years ago, Baby Fae made headlines worldwide after she received a heart transplant. Baby Fae’s heart transplant was not an ordinary case as the baby Stephanie Fae Beauclair received a heart transplant from a Baboon. Yes, a Baboon and the heart transplant was converted to a controversial topic as the Baboon was sacrificed to extract the heart only. The first ever human heart transplant from an animal was conducted in October 1984.

The surgeon who wanted to create history was Leonard L. Bailey. On a newly born baby, Surgeon Leonard L. Bailey attempted the first animal to human heart transplant. At the time of the heart transplant, Baby Fae was just one day old. The attempt was converted to a controversial case when the Baboon was sacrificed. The poor Baboon was killed just to extract the heart and the surgeon was not sure whether he’ll succeed or not. The heart transplant surgery was successful but just after three weeks from the surgery, Baby Fae died.
