Sweetest Day 2009

Sweetest Day

Sweetest Day

Today is October 17th and it is the Sweetest Day, 2009. Sweetest Day is celebrated each year. It is celebrated on the third Saturday of the month of October. In 1922, Sweetest Day was originated in Cleveland, Ohio. It was originated when a candy store employee named Herbert Birch Kingston, organized a group of people that distributed small gifts among the orphans and homeless people. On Sweetest Day, people presents gifts to their family, friends and love ones. It is mostly practiced in Northeast and in the Great Lakes.

The prayer for the Sweetest Day is given below:

“God, you are the provider of all good and perfect gifts. You promise too that you will supply all our needs, that we can pray for our ‘daily bread’ and know you will answer. Often, Lord, you answer these prayers through the hands of your children. As we pray for those in financial need today, bring to our minds anyone you would like us to bless in a tangible way. If you be a blessing as we pray this blessing, let it happen! We know that you say, ‘Taste and see that the Lord is good!’ If we can offer a sweet opportunity of someone in need to taste that sweetness, we’re willing. We pray in Jesus…”

Everyone can celebrate this day by sharing some useful goods to the needy in the form of gifts. Small things such as a foodbasket, a new pair of shoes and other small gifts are good enough to make people smile.
