The New York City marathon is the largest marathon of the world and it is the essential part of the World Marathon Major Series. The other major marathons are Boston, London, Chicago, Berlin, World Championships and Olympic Games marathons. The top runners of these races get points and on the basis of these points the winners of the World Marathon Majors are chosen. A prize of 1 Million Dollor is distributed among the males and females winners of World Marathon Majors. After the New York City Marathon of 2007, The World Majors Marathon competition was held and the winners were Rober K Cheuiyot (Kenya) and Gete Wami (Ethiopia).
The first New York marathon was held in 1970 at the Central Park. Since then, the race is growing more and more interesting for runners and now more than 90,000 runners apply to run on a unique course of energetic atmosphere every year. Most of the runners return disappointed as the race has a limit of 38000 runners. Most of the runners are selected randomly through a lucky draw. In New York City, the first Sunday of the November is “The Marathon Sunday” and nearly, two million New Yorkers come to see and encourage the runners while listening 100 live bands in the enthusiastic atmosphere.
