Tim Krekal, a music legend passed away at 58.Tim Krekal died of cancer. He had been struggling to overcome the disease after his surgery since March. He died at his house, in Louisville, at Wednesday afternoon.
Tim started his career in Louisville when he was a kid, was a lead guitarist for Jimmy Buffet’s band and a famous songwriter. He was a graduate from the old Flaget High School. “Dusty”, was also one among his band and was very popular band in late 1960’s and early 1970’s. He also worked with Van Morrison and Sha Na Na for a while during his short stay New York. In the mid of 1970’s he played lead guitarist for Jimmy Buffet’s band.
In 1978, Tim told The Courier-Journal, that “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and “Livingston Saturday Night” on Buffet’s “Son of a Son of a Sailor” album are his singles which makes him feel proud. “Over the Fence” was one of his two albums, he released for his another band, “Arista”, in mid of 1980’s.
Tim joined Jimmy Buffet’s band, for the second time in 1987 and become the part of the “Saturday Night Live” in the same year.
The program director of at WFPK-FM, Stacy Owen said,
“I’m sure if you talked to a lot of local musicians here in town, they would consider Tim a mentor,”
One of his friend said,
“He had a major, successful career, but he was still based here. He’s just a hometown boy,”
During his work for music in four decades, he lived in New York and Nashville and also took world tours but still he loves his hometown and returned to it.
The name of his wife is Debora Cooper Krekel, with whom he spent his life. Jason, Nathan, Katy and Anna Krekel were the names of his children and Jane Humphries and Jill Brewer were his sisters.
