Two former light heavyweight champions Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz comes face to face in a rematch in UFC 106. The Bout was held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Saturday night. In this match Forrest Griffin won by split decision, while in 2006 he lost the match to Ortiz in the same way.
In the later part of the second round Ortiz looked tired and exhausted so he did nothing in the third and final round. The final scores were 30-27, 29-28, and 28-29 for Griffin who lost to Anderson Silva in August. On the other hand Ortiz did well as he made a comeback after his spinal fusion surgery last year. He scored 16-7-1, he was competing first time in 18 months.
Ortiz did not manage a single win in his last four fights, since October 2006 he lost three and just manage to draw one. However his performance and effort was good enough that his opponent Griffin praised him and said,
“Tito was a great fight for me, I think we’re gonna have to do a third – it’s 1-1.”
Tito said,
“Forrest came with a lot of heart and he put on a great show tonight,”
He added,
“He’s the better man tonight.”
